Mike del ferro

International Award-winning pianist and composer Mike del Ferro, representing the Netherlands, will grace the stage of the Suriname Jazz Festival. Born in Amsterdam, Mike’s musical journey is deeply rooted in a family legacy of music, with his father being the renowned opera singer Leonard del Ferro.

Mike’s musical prowess extends beyond jazz, as he began studying classical piano at the age of nine. Falling in love with jazz, he pursued further studies, earning a Master’s in Contemporary Music at the Amsterdam Conservatory. His talent garnered recognition early on, winning First Prize at the Rotterdam Jazz Piano Competition in 1989.

Over the years, Mike has collaborated with a diverse array of musicians, including Toots Thielemans, Branford Marsalis, Jack DeJohnette, Randy Brecker, and many more. His repertoire spans over 20 albums under his own name, showcasing his versatility and mastery in different genres.

A distinguished educator, Mike has taught jazz piano at the Royal Conservatory in Gent, Belgium. His global travels, encompassing 117 countries, have inspired a unique approach to his music, bridging cultural influences and musical styles. He has signed with Challenge Records for a series of 10 CDs titled “Songs Inspired by Wandering the Globe,” featuring collaborations with musicians worldwide.

For the Suriname Jazz Festival, Mike del Ferro will be joined by Suriname’s own Bassist Jason Eduwaiti and drummer Edson Faerber, promising a mesmerizing performance that transcends borders and genres.
