What happens?

In January 2023, Aurora Marchese and Mikael Máni Ásmundsson met in Amsterdam, brought together by a shared love of lyrics, jazz ballads and, unexpectedly, chocolate. This mutual sensitivity laid the foundation for their undeniable chemistry.
Their artistic synergy grew within the vibrant and multicultural music scene of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, an environment that became a natural meeting point for their contrasting yet harmonious personalities.

The Estudiantina Ensemble plays in the traditional style of Cuban Estudiantina music, rooted in Danzón and Son. Founded by Ricardo Bekema, the group aims to preserve the authentic Cuban sounds of Oriente de Cuba. Over the years, they have performed internationally, including at the prestigious “International Festival de la Trova” in Cuba.

The Estudiantina Ensemble will be performing on Day 3 of this year’s Festival.

d’Okest is an 8-member band from Suriname, known for their unique blend of indie-soul/funk with influences from their rich heritage. Formed in 2019, they transitioned from playing covers to writing original music during the pandemic, achieving local hits and performing internationally. Their energetic stage presence and creative sound make them stand out both locally and abroad.

After gracing the crowd during JazzDay 2024 in Suriname, Ronald is back on the lineup for this year’s festival:

Born in Paramaribo in 1951, Ronald Snijders is a celebrated flutist and composer known for blending Surinamese rhythms with jazz, funk, and world music. A pioneer in kaseko music, he has released over 60 albums, including a 20-CD box set that won the “Touch of Jazz” award. He has performed internationally and remains deeply connected to his Surinamese roots.

He will be performing on Day 3 of this year’s festival.
