Ronald Snijders, born in 1951 in Paramaribo, Suriname, is the son of renowned composer and conductor Eddy Snijders. He is one of the most prominent Surinamese musicians, celebrated for his mastery of the flute and his role as a versatile composer and performer. Ronald moved to the Netherlands in 1970 to study civil engineering but ultimately pursued a career in music. He won the press prize at the NOS/Laren Jazz competition and later earned a degree in musicology at the University of Amsterdam with a thesis on kaseko music. Recognized for bridging cultures through his music, he has been knighted in both Suriname and the Netherlands.

With over 60 albums to his name, including a 20-CD box set that won the “Touch of Jazz” award, Ronald’s work spans various genres, blending Surinamese rhythms like kawina and kaseko with funk, jazz, soul, and world music. His band, the Ronald Snijders Band, has been active since the mid-1970s, showcasing his unique style and strong connection to his roots. Ronald has performed at major events like the North Sea Jazz Festival and composed the soundtrack for the documentary Nieuw Licht. In 2021, he celebrated his 70th birthday with exhibitions and concerts, continuing to inspire audiences around the world.
